With the cost of homes rising to even higher levels, it is not surprising that many people are turning to building their own homes.  This can be a daunting proposition, especially if you do not employ the right kinds of tradesmen. 

High on the list of qualified tradesmen you should look to identify at an early stage is a good Carpenter (or chippy !).  The quality of the major carpentry works, in a home (such a joists, trusses and supports (known as 1st Fix) is directly proportional to the quality of the final resulting home.

In addition to the 1st fix (structural work), new homes need a great deal of carpentry on more cosmetic level (known as 2nd fix).  This includes fitted kitchens, wardrobe and staircases.  Get this wrong, or 'skimp' on this aspect of the build and the results look shabby and may let down the structural quality.
